BeachCorps projects are currently focused on regular summer programs beginning in 2019. BeachCorps is providing great regularly scheduled projects in the summer of 2019, including great summer English classes supporting the Puntacana Group Foundation that are also backed by the Punta Cana-Bavaro Rotary Club and the MetroBethesda Rotary Club.
The fact of the matter is that right now BeachCorps is really just me, the Beach Bum (aka retired US Foreign Service Officer and Rotarian David Searby). However, I am working with a lot of help from a lot of friends. From great nonprofits like the Puntacana Group Foundation for summer English classes to the Responsible Ecotourism Foundation on recycling projects to the biggest and I think best excursion provider in the country, Runners Adventures. Plus of course the two Rotary clubs Punta Cana-Bavaro Rotary Club and the MetroBethesda Rotary Club who are supporting our summer English classes. My hope is to slowly develop the BeachCorps approach to fun impact travel supporting REAL nonprofit causes, not causes invented to please tourists.
Right now BeachCorps is focused on finding volunteers for a series of regularly scheduled projects for the summer of 2019. However, BeachCorps is happy to work with you on possible alternative dates with custom-designed impact travel that best suits your goals and needs. Barring unusual specialized requests, the Beach Bum (aka David Searby) is offering this “White Glove Service” at the same price as our prepackaged trips for the summer of 2019.
This white-gloved service is a great deal. Ever heard of these incredibly expensive educational tours led by some expert that colleges provide? They are worth it–if you have the money. You go and visit some place and get a real insider’s perspective from some person with a double PhD in the area you are visiting. I believe if you come to the Dominican Republic you can learn a lot through the eyes of a former US diplomat who twice served in the country and has long loved this wonderful “country in the world, situated right in the sun’s path.” (From “There’s A Country in the World,” the classic poem of Dominican Poet Laureate Pedro Mir). Yes, I know and love this country in the sun’s path–sunbathed warts and all. Plus you will have the confidence of knowing someone is in charge who can get you safely off the beaten path.
But the BeachCorps White Glove Service and expert overview of the Dominican Republic won’t require you to break the bank. BeachCorps trips cost more than a typical beach excursion because you also give a donation directly to the cause you are supporting. However, BeachCorps trips cost a lot less than existing comparable volunteer vacations, including volunteer vacations in the Dominican Republic.
Your white glove service includes:
- Custom-designed selection of a nonprofit cause and planned activities that best meets your goals and needs. Consult by phone or email.
- Advice in selecting the best lodging. BeachCorps gives discounts given for more sustainable lodging.
- Written overview of the Dominican Republic and your nonprofit cause. Gain the perspective of a retired United States Foreign Service Officer with extensive experience in the Dominican Republic.
- A Pre-departure video conference for your group to field questions, discuss sustainable development in the Dominican Republic.
- Hotel or lodging pickup and drop-off with excursion provider Runners Adventures. We can also work with another mutually agreed excursion provider or transportation company.
- Water and soft drinks (non-alcoholic). For longer program days, we can also provide Fresh fruits, Boxed lunch.
- Follow up photos and specialized video from BeachCorps.
Hope to see you soon and give you and your fellow BeachCorps volunteers some great white glove service!
Love this white glove service!
