Description

Get a FREE volunteer excursion! This volunteer project is open to people of all-faiths (or no faith) and is directed by the Dominican Development Group (DDG), the development arm of The Episcopal Church in the Dominican Republic.  See our blog for our views on Faith-Based Development.  Your volunteer project will complement the work of two Episcopal Mission teams who are doing the majority of the work and fundraising for a $48,000 project to build the second story of the Colegio La Encarnación School in La Romana, Dominican Republic.  It’s a one-time offer only in 2018; we will end the offer after the first trip is booked and it won’t be available again until 2019!

The DDG coordinates the work of the Episcopal mission teams from the United States who work in the Dominican Republic each year and assists the Episcopal Church of the Dominican Republic in achieving financial self-sufficiency.  We love the DDG because they focus on promoting empowerment and avoiding a culture of dependency as noted in the seminal book on volunteer vacations Toxic Charity.  The DDG works closely with the Episcopal dioceses across the United States and helps coordinate the work of other organizations that support mission teams and other projects in the Episcopal Diocese of the Dominican Republic.  Approximately 50 Episcopal Church mission teams from the United States come to work in the Diocese of the Dominican Republic each year.  The DDG helps in a variety of construction projects and assists in promoting education, one of the primary missions of the Dominican Episcopal Church.  BeachCorps hopes to support the relational mission of the DDG, allowing more Episcopalians to meet and share experience and understanding through people-to-people engagement that empowers the Dominican Church of the Dominican Republic.

You will be picked up at your hotel in the morning by BeachCorps partner Runners Adventures, the biggest (and we think best) excursion provider in the country that is highly rated on Trip Advisor.  During your project, you will learn about the mission of the school and of the Dominican Development Group and meet some of children of the school, engaging in multicultural games and (depending on the work progress) possible light construction work and/or painting. Your project will help us create great photos and videos to promote our summer English learning projects at the school that begin in the summer of 2019. We will play inter-cultural games where mixed teams of locals and foreigners learn about each other (no Spanish required).  More specific details on timing sent after purchase.

Use the coupon code EPISCOPALPOWER to get this for FREE! (Only 10 available).  Minimum booking: 4, Max 10.  Without a coupon the excursion cost is $50.  Your donation of $25 goes 100% to DDG.
