Environment & Animals

Environment: The Dominican Republic is an island blessed with some of the beautiful beaches, mountain ranges, national parks and natural resources as well as some of the highest concentration of biodiversity in the world; at the same time, as a developing country the Dominican Republic also faces serious environmental challenges.  BeachCorps Volunteers will work with nonprofits and local Dominicans, particularly youth, to clean up areas with high levels of littering while also posting signs and planting gardens in these areas to reinforce the anti-littering message.  Volunteers can also go into schools and present anti-littering messages. 

Animals: BeachCorps is developing programs to support animals and wildlife focused on increasing local capacity to care for animals.   

Responsible Ecotourism Foundation (FECOTUR)

FECOTUR arises from the need to adapt the environment and social sustainability to the growth of business and tourism development in the area of ​​Bávaro, Province of Altagracia and the eastern part of the Dominican Republic. FECOTUR is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the environment and supporting social and cultural development.  FECOTUR works with partners in the government, civil society, and private sector to promote renewable energy projects, education initiatives, and good waste management by Reducing, Reusing and Recycling waste.

Dogs & Cats of the Dominican Republic

The mission of Dogs and Cats of the Dominican Republic (DCDR) is to significantly improve the health and well-being of the dogs and cats living in the North Coast of the Dominican Republic. DCDR helps underserved communities attend to their basic needs so that the communities can tend to the needs of animals, which in turn makes for kinder, safer communities. This mission is being accomplished through the commitment and compassion of their volunteers, donors, and supporters. ​

Global Foundation for Democracy and Development

The Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) is a US 501c3 nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that conducts research, enhances public understanding, designs public policies, devises strategies, and offers capacity building in areas crucial to social, economic, democratic and cultural sustainable development.  GFDD promotes better understanding and appreciation of Dominican culture, values and heritage in the Dominican Republic, US and worldwide.  GFDD also leads the Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival, an important tool in advancing public awareness on environmental issues.

Rescatame

The Rescatame (“Rescue Me” in Spanish) mission is to significantly improve the health and well-being of the dogs and cats living in the Punta Cana area. Rescatame helps underserved communities attend to their basic needs so that the communities can tend to the needs of animals, which in turn makes for kinder, safer communities.
